Design By Committee Brings Death

Smashing Magasine

A very good post on Smashing Magazine about common mistakes on corporate websites.

Point 8 especially rings true, that "Design By Committee Brings Death", you can end up going around in circles when designing websites, the reasonf or this is everyone is so used to the web now that they'll all have an opinion, but trying to design something to everyone's taste can leave you going around in circles and can ultimately end up with a bland design.

Design Death

I also think point nine of the article is very valid. All CMS's aren't what they're cracked up to be, you see some Content Management Systems will literally only allow you to change basic blocks of text, they won't allow you to add new pages, or to feed new content through to the homepage.

However Drupal our trusty CMS is more then capable in ths respect.

Horse designed by Committee

There is an old saying that a 'Camel is a Horse designed by Committee' ;-)

However, I think that this is a bit harsh on the poor Camel, I would like to see a horse do as good a job as a Camel at surviving in the Desert!

But I agree that a design process produces much better results when there is one strong and talented leader who is capable of making and following through with decisions!

But, '... Brings Death' might be overstating things just a tad?? ;-)

Yea, it might be a little OTT alright, but I thought it was funny!
