#1 Only Using One Channel
People that only tend to use Facebook or increasingly Instagram as their only digital marketing avenue are limiting their reach because Google does not index the content of their Facebook page, so after 48 hours, the content has pretty much vanished! Facebook & Instagrams's ongoing decline in organic reach means it is harder to get the message out there without a boost spend.
#2 Over Estimating "Reach"
Facebook Reach measures the number of users who may have seen your content. Facebook will automatically load 6 to 10 additional posts when you load up your news feed. When these additional posts are loaded, they are deemed as having reached the relevant users, even if they weren’t scrolled down to!
#3 Lies & Statistics
We need to critically analyse whether our digital marketing approach is working. Otherwise, video production costs can easily offset any reach bonus gained. The headline statistics read well but the reality is a lot less impressive. Extra reach does not counteract the challenges thrown up by the format of video in its current state.
#4 Getting A Random Young Person To Run Your Social Media
Young people, social media savvy as they are, are not marketing experts! While they know social media you need a plan or should give them direction so that your Facebook page doesn’t end up full of kitten videos.
#5 Spamming Posting Too Much (Or Just Posting Too Often)We shouldn’t try to “sell sell sell!” You need to engage your page users and entertain them by giving them content which they will find, fun, interesting, or helpful. The higher the quality of your content the more people will interact with it and share it via social media, so they are more likely to see your content again.
